THE ON PURPOSE / ADC TRAINING PAVILION
To support the employees at Abahizi Dushygikirane’s vocational center and manufacturing facility in Masoro, GAC-Rwanda was commissioned to design a pavilion to promote life skills and craft training activities. The design balances the client’s desire for a minimal “pavilion in a landscape” that also accommodates meetings for as many as 60 people during the severe storms that buffet the site during Rwanda’s rainy seasons.
OPEN & CLOSED
Isolated in the landscape yet physically near the main vocational center, the design uses natural building techniques such as stabilized soil blocks, natural ventilation through an open clerestory roof reveal, operable windows around the perimeter, and large doorways that wrap 180 degrees to lay flat against the building’s exterior wall.
